What is Energy Efficiency

The dictionary defines efficiency as “the ability to produce something with a minimum amount of effort”.

An Energy Efficient site is one that provides:

  • the required environment (a good ambient temperature, proper ventilation, required lighting, etc)
  • and required equipment performance (refrigeration system keeping food/contents chilled or frozen, machinery operating)

with a minimum amount of electricity.

Why aren’t some buildings energy efficient?

Currently, building systems  are maintained to operate, not to operate efficiently. Maintenance work is usually done to make sure refrigerators keep food cold, HVAC systems keep people warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and light bulbs are working.
